May. 19th, 2005 @ 11:11 am My predictions for Semi Final
Ok, after yet another bleary eyed morning, I'm going to do the same as Keith and Andrew and give you a list of the ten songs that I THINK will qualify and the ten songs that I WANT to qualify. I watched the first dress rehearsal yesterday on screen and last night's in the hall.

OK, the ten songs I WANT to qualify are (in no particular order)

Finland
Ireland
Portugal
Israel
Hungary
Belarus
Moldova
Switzerland
Netherlands
Romania

Now, the 10 songs that I think will qualify is much more difficult as I have a list of 16 that I think could make it!! So, again, in no particular order they are:

Norway
Switzerland
Moldova
Netherlands
Hungary
Belarus
Croatia
Slovenia
Poland
Finland

The other six I had on my list were Ireland, Latvia, Israel, Iceland, Romania and Denmark.

Donna should definitely NOT wear that dress!! If she does it will be another Irish Eurovision fashion disaster!!!

Not long to wait now before we lose 15 songs from the competition! If you have any comments or questions, just leave them here or email me at erener1@hotmail.com

May. 19th, 2005 @ 01:10 pm My prediction for the top 10 in the Semi Final
Hello again from a very sauna like Press centre. Its absolutely buzzing in here today.

Thanks to Keith and Peter for posting their top 10. I will do the same.

I watched 2/3rds of the afternoon rehearsal in the hall and all of the evening rehearshal.

Some songs have remarkably gone up and down in my estimates as a result.

I have come up with 8 countries that for one reason or another have no chance IMHO.
Portugal
Latvia
Belguim
Estonia
Macedonia
Andorra
Bulgaria
Denmark

The possibles are

Austria
Lithuania
Monaco
Israel
Finland
Croatia
Ireland
Slovenia

This gives me 9 definite qualifiers.

So my Top 10 I think will get through

Slovenia
Moldova
Belarus
Netherlands
Iceland
Norway
Romania
Hungary
Switzerland
Poland

The top 10 I would prefer

Belarus
Netherlands
Iceland
Norway
Romania
Hungary
Switzerland
Croatia
Israel
Lithuania

Had the latest of nights so far last night rolling in from Euroclub at 4.30am
So much committment in the need to network and report for Eurovision.

Another live link on Forth2 today direct from Kyiv at 2.10pm (UK time)

next report after the Semi Final results before heading to the after show party at Euroclub.

hello again

As far as I am aware Peter and Keith will not be covering this afternoons fianl dress rehearsal.
I will not be in the hall either but in the press centre as i have my live link with Radio Forth2
at 2.10pm(UK time) which is almost midway through the show. So I will catch glimpses on the big screen and post
any relevant comments.
My live report may shift to 2.30pm as they are trying to set up an interview with Javine and may have us on together.
Awaiting word now.

Ok Guys Some news just hot off the press.

Ireland have listened to the comments from press and fans and Donna will be wearing another dress today.
Hurrrahhhh!!! A good performance tonight could now be crucial for qualification. Also a reminder to all
Irish viewers close to the Northern border that your phone call to vote will be counted in the UK vote.
Not that I am endorsing neighbourly voting you understand. But Ireland has so few neighbours that its worth a shot.

Javine from the United Kingdom has been busy with interviews most of today. I will be doing my usual live link at
2.10pm today(UK time) and this will be followed by an interview on Forth2 with Javine at 2.30pm(UK time).
My link will cover the likely outcome of the semi final tonight and my ones to watch. Then i will do a sort of intro
chat about the UK and Javines chances. So all you Scottish listeners tune in and those on the net as well.

Spoke to some of the Icelandic delelgation and they are keeping their fingers crossed for Selma tonight.
Quiet confidence is the order of the day I think. I asked what size of Venue is now avaialable in Reykjavik and was told
they have a new arena ready which can hold 18 000 and recently held a Metallica concert.

More later

Portugal are on now on the live feed to the press centre.
She has discarded the crazy hat and has her hair pleated and bushy now.
Nice performance now.

Austria were good but the same , consistant.

Lithuania was competent.

May. 19th, 2005 @ 04:29 pm Some observations from today..
They are a bit better at getting Norway off and Romania on in 40 seconds. There's still a pause before Romania starts but it's nowhere near as bad as yesterday. Both Romania and Hungary are better. Luminita tits are bordering on the wardrobe malfuction territory, but at least she is now making eye contact with the camera. Hungary was much better vocally. On this performance, a clear qualifier. I've just had Milanka from Macedonian television seeking my opinion on their peformance. Martin is no Sakis, and he he shouldn't try to dance. Apparently my comments are going to go out on Macedonian television. There's another country where I can't go on holiday. So that's Malta, Netherlands, Portugal Greece and Macedonia off the list. It's a good job I like Israel, Spain and Croatia.

Andorra is back to being a screaming match, scratch that one off your lists. Switzerland is good yet again. Those waiting for this to flop will be disappointed, but (big but) is there room for Moldova, Noprway and Switzerland in the Top 10?

There's a rumour that tonight's semi-final is not sold out. I hope there's no big empty spaces like last year.

Those in Australia and New Zealand can see tonight's semi-final live. Turn your sat dish to Optus B3 at 152.0°E and tune to ERTSat at 12525 V, 30000-2/3.

I have now just seen IRELAND. They listened to us and Donna's outfit is back to being a dark jacket, knee length pants, boots and a beret. MUCH better. The performance was solid. Joe missed a few camera shots but the Irish dancing bit (especially shot from behind) is very effective. We're still in with a shout, but with Hungary and Iceland getting a bit better it's so tight! I'm going to be on the edge of my seat tonight when they open the envelopes.

I've now seen Slovenia (better but not a contender for me) and Poland (still solid). Nothing is making me chance my Top 10 from last night; so for me its Netherlands, Norway, Moldova, Iceland, Poland, Croatia, Hungary, Israel, Belarus and Switzerland.

I would have Finland in there but I think there is only room for two ballads (I hope I'm wrong).

I would have Ireland and Romania in there but Hungary's show song works better.

These 13 are away from the pack for me, and if Belgium or Portugal qualifies they'll have to carry me home in a stretcher.

One final thought, it is very possible Iceland will not make it despite being a huge favourite. There's something badly missing and I can't decide what it is.

OK tonight is "second best frock" night, watch out for a row of Irish flags near the front and after tonight's press conferences I will try to get a blog in before going to the most awkward party of the week, where 10 countries will be jumping for joy and 15 will be sitting around like wallflowers at a school disco. (Do they still have those?)

Well thats another good live link over with Forth2.
Chatted mainly about semi tonight and possible contenders for qualification.
I read out the same top 10 I posted earlier. Also chatted about the continuing party circuit.

Onto the live feed of the rehearsal.

I kinda missed seeing netherlands again and but heard it was strong and powerful.

Iceland was a lot better and i think this will now go through for sure.

Belguim was dull and too old fashioned. It will pick up votes if a granny convention is in town watching.
Estonia I missed thankfully.
Also missed Norway.

Came back in for Romania. A good solid performance again.

Hungary was much better vocally and the dancing and camera angles are superb. Still looking like a qualifier and winner.

Finland another strong vocal performance.

Macedonia came over much better today, the Balkan votes could see this sneak through like last year.

Andorra was a fine performance. But Annabell was screeching her backing vocal again. trying too hard dear.

Switzerland just finished. Another solid performance , positive this will go through.

Croatia up next. Another solid performance vocally by Boris. Handstand is now there for sure.
Could still sneak in with balkan voting helping it.

Bulgaria is awful.

Ireland up next. Its wonderful now. Superb routine. Donna in a trouser suit(black) with a flat black cap and a gold sparkly
top. Big big improvement. This could well do it you know Ireland.

Slovenia was again excellent. Great vocals. Should finish higher than Croatia.

Denmark another good performance but there is something lacking here. Oh I know what it is, I need to actually like the song.

Poland nailed it at the end. Absolutely spot on. Great finish to the show. The naked torso shot at the end will get the gay
vote too. Apparently lots of gays like to watch the show.

So on to tonight. I am so excited now.

Based on what I saw this afternoon I am changing my top 10.

Moldova
Belarus
Netherlands
Iceland
Norway
Hungary
Switzerland
Ireland
Poland
Slovenia

That is my final list of qualifiers.
